It always works. The application has never crashed, and can always be counted on being available. Being a self-contained Java application, it's never affected by OS updates. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Being a Java application, it is a bit heavy on memory usage. Licensing has room for improvement. A "perpetual license" requires an annual renewal fee if you want updates. Updates are advertised and available whether you pay the annual fee or not, and if you don't, they threaten to shut down your software remotely unless you catch up on fees. They are now more transparent about this, but functionally it's still the same process. Lastly, the software dials home to the mothership and won't run if the license is in use somewhere else. This is a somewhat understandable approach, except it's impossible to have a hot disaster recovery server on standby. In the event of a disaster, a DR server has to be manually configured with the correct version and configuration of Wowza. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Setup might be challenging for new users, so be prepared for a learning curve. This is not most cost effective choice and especially for smaller-scale applications. Web RTC ultra low latency requires further settings. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Fairly simple to setup and get web page capable feeds from rtsp camera feeds. I don't play around too much with multi-media streams, but wowza made it pretty simple to convert sources to formats I could stream on video walls and web pages.
Install the app on a server with access to your feeds, then add your feeds settings (protocol, etc) and the output you want....so it's fairly straight forward.
From there, it was pretty simple to embed into a web page using their JS library and get a feed that my android based device attached to a TV to stream the transcoded video. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Would be nice if I could test my settings immediately in the web app versus needing to jump to another program to test my settings. It could be inside their program already, but I didn't see it after some html player updates. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

easily transcode from RTMP to HLS (h.264) and robustly works over EC2 so we can easily and consistently provide LIVE streaming service. without Wowza, we can not provide our service.
basic and essential as infrastructure of LIVE origin server. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The DVR feature has a serious bug (CPU/memory usage gradually increases and eventually system crashes) when using Wowza for long DVR HLS live streaming of 21 video streams and is still unresolved after reporting it to wowza 5 years ago! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Ease of getting started and getting up and running. This has come in handy to just stand up a streaming ingest and reflection service in minutes. Once the basics are going, there is so much under the hood, between the API service and the support for virtualized servers to really allow you to tweak and tune to your particular needs. It is not a dislike, it is just a "you should know." Once you start to get into tuning and customizing WSE, it does require a large cross section of skills to do as a one person show or a decent team working together. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What I like most about the product is that it's capability to support low latency streaming which helps for real time interactions. The product also excels in scalability and performance to handle high volume streaming of live-broadcasting, VOD and 24/7 streaming. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The pricing of the product is costly according to my point of view. And also Wowza requires considerable amount of server resources which leads to high infrastructure cost. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Wowza offers single console management for Metadata Management, Video Clipping, Auto Captioning and for Permissions & Access which makes it easy to manage. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Setting up wowza requires more technical ability compared to other platforms. Also deploying wowza on prem requires heavy resources which can be costly. Wowza is more suited for SMB market since it is bit more price heavy than the other solutions Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Wowza provides us with a solid platform with exactly the features and interfaces (web/API) that my team needs in order to manage streaming from our in-person events. The Wowza team is responsive and helpful. We have been able to easily leverage Wowza to better control and integrate with our event platform and mobile application. There isn't anything in particular that sticks out to dislike about the platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The amount possibilities, Wowza’s API gives us the flexibility to integrate with Amazon S3 for storage and Wowza CDN for reliable, high-quality streaming. As a streaming company, we rely on it to keep everything running smoothly without hassle. We can't see another competitor offering the same as Wowza provides to our company. As a heavy wowza user I don't have much to complain, our company gets what we pay for, but I would say that the pricing structure could be more accommodating for startups and smaller organizations. Luckily our company can cover the bills just fine, but I can't see how that would apply for smaller companies with less budget. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
