41 Azure Synapse Analytics Reviews
What I most like about azure synapse analytics is it gives us end to end manages instance. Be it azure sql Or adf and any other functionality. We don't need to manage any connections they are all managed by synapse. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The cost structure is difficult to understand. And the logging metrics are not easy to use. Integrated external 3rd party data sources this capability seems to be missing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

You have multiple options based on your use cases and it all works. You just need to know when to use what. There's the commonly used Sql Server(which is now hosted on cloud), then you have Sql Warehouses, that they renamed to Synapse and added a whole lot of great functionalities which is appreciated. Their constant renaming and rebranding of stuff is just mind-boggling. Sql warehouses became Azure Synapse. If you ask anyone what Synapse is, they will give you an answer different from another answer that you might get and both of them would be correct. MS just needs to name their products correctly and stick to it without any redundancies. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Better view as a table and insights. Serverless SQL is the best advantage in that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Difficult to manage high volumes of concurrent queries Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The serverless pool which can work with external data sources with reference works very well, it gives the option to use Azure databricks to process files and use synapse as SQL frontend for it. User management is also easy, as you can provide access on every level, DB level, schema level etc. We can also import PowerBI datasets into the workspace and gives users one place to view everything which helps a lot. Option to write TSQL, KSQL, notebook, spark job etc also keeps everything at one place with GIT integration they perform very well. Pipelines can also be shifted from ADF to here, hence it becomes a single platform for everything. Logging is also very good, containing SQL query, user and execution time provides great insights about users and helps in data protection. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Queries can take several minutes to execute on a serverless pool. sometimes they don't even get cancelled. Indexing is only available in the dedicated server pool. When importing PowerBI datasets the only option is to create reports, we should be allowed to see underlying datasets in raw and fetch data from them using TSQL, then it would be more useful. TSQL is more powerful in SSMS, Synapse doesn't allow some functions and even takes time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It is easy to use, we can create multiple jobs using synapse studio it could be azure data factory, databricks and SQL data warehouse. it supports all the processes and it easily handles a big amount of data we can easily define indexes and dimensions in the synapse analytics platform. Dislike is not specific it is a bit costly and SQL data pool connectivity needs to be improved. It hangs when a large amount of data comes from more than 100K rows also query takes time to run sometimes it gives a timeout error. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
